The Wide Angle: Mandatory sustainability disclosure should not run ahead of corporate reality
Companies do need to re-think business-as-usual in their quest to comply with onerous disclosure requirements while they strive to meet their own sustainability targets. But if the disclosure rules are not realistically achievable, no-one gains. There is no point in letting political and regulatory ambition front-run corporate or investor realities.
Achieving a balance between disclosure that is realistically achievable and politically acceptable while meeting net-zero goals is vital.
