Scope assigns instrument rating of (P)BB+ to Tier 2 notes of OTP Bank Nyrt

The instrument rating is based on the bank’s BBB+/Stable issuer rating and Tier 2 status of the notes.

      Rating action

Scope Ratings GmbH (Scope) has today assigned a (P)BB+ preliminary rating to the upcoming Tier 2 capital notes to be issued by OTP Bank Nyrt, in line with previously rated Tier 2 debt of the bank. The Outlook is Stable.

Preliminary ratings rely on information available to Scope up to 14 January 2022. Scope will assign final ratings conditional to the review of the executed version of all transaction documents and legal opinions. Final credit ratings may deviate from preliminary ratings.

      Rating rationale

OTP intends to issue a new Tier 2 capital bond.

According to Scope’s methodology for rating capital instruments, Tier 2 notes are rated two notches below non-preferred senior debt (rated BBB for OTP) due to their deeply subordinated characteristics.

The Outlook on the debt instrument mirrors the Stable Outlook on OTP Bank Nyrt.

The rating drivers and rating change drivers for OTP’s BBB+/Stable issuer rating are listed in the rating action release published on 15 November 20211.
